Text and webpage by Peter Capotosto. I apologize in advance for the slow load times on the pics but I havent optimized them so they can be downloaded for thr kids and parents at at around 35kb per image.

Nearly 30 Boy Scouts of America Troop 351 and parents from the International School of Manila recently camped out at TLYC.  A fantastic time was had by all, with novices applying their new lessons quickly, while more experienced boys took advantage of good winds to improve their skills with our toppers, sunfish and cats.

Michael and Ryan planing on a topper. Big wind, big waves, but they look like they are doing just fine. Merit badge for sure.

The boys learned to sail on the smaller toppers and sunfishes before moving into the catamarans.

TLYC has about half a dozen Hobie 16s for rent, and the more experienced scouts and scoutmasters had a great time sailing along the shoreline checking out the local scene.

Capsize practice. One of the very first things that the scouts learn is how to right the boat when it goes over. Thats right, its "WHEN" not "IF"

This is what all teachers want to see when they look at their class!  Now just what is it that makes a sailing lesson at TLYC so interesting? Can we copyright that formula?

Rule #1: Always wear a hat (you never know when the unrelenting paparrazzi will finally get you!)  Rule #2 make sure you pull up the centerboard before you beach the boat. Here Adam learns about the centerboard and Robin has a seious thought about trying the trapeze.

When the speed comes up, the trampoline becomes a swimming pool and Adam takes a dip.

Sailing by themselves, and taking positions of responsibility, Chris, Victor, Naor and "Skipper" Aiden get serious as they take full control of the 21.

Hey, this is hard to beat. A picture is worth a thousand words. Nice Photo Dad!

Does a fish take to water better than these scouts took to sailing?  All scouts hope to complete their Sailing Merit Badge requirements soon.
