Great racing. The wind started out very light, and Gia and Luigi walked away yoga instructors are cool with the first race because just a few minutes after the start, they tacked way out to the left to catch the wind line.  Nobody followed.  They caught it and rounded the first mark as everyone else sat in the doldrums.  They were on the way back from the second mark,  by the time the rest of the fleet made it to the first mark. They lapped the fleet!

shorten courseThe course had to be shortened, and it started to get worrisome, because it looked like the wind might not come at all.  We sat around and waited, but it just wasn't to be. The race committee sent everyone in for lunch and- of course, the wind came in.

And the wind stayed.  Solid wind for the rest of the afternoon made for funluigi gia start racing, good starts, and increasingly close competition.

Gia and Luigi were right on the line with an excelent start in the secod race, but it was no walk in the park.  By the time they got to the top mark, there was a traffic jam. Competition was tight! It was really great to see the level of competition so high.  It was such a pleasant surprise!

The wind picked up even more in the next race,  and  the  competition was tighterstill.  Gaye and Charlie port tacked the fleet at the start, and although it seems impossible in this picture, they made it through.

There was clearly more wind outside though, so they tacked out anyway.

It was neck and neck, with Gia keeping just ahead  at the top mark,  then down to the bottom mark where it looks like charlie is trying  to tie paper cups to gias rudders. :-)
Our former sponsor, SMART, is still getting good mileage out of these bouys. Anybody want to sponsor?

is he cheating?

At this point,  Maria and Fernando  were only a few seconds behind. But Fernando, being the quintesential Spanish gentleman that he is, decided that Maria was catching up too quickly,  so he decided that a swim would be a good idea. :-)

the gentle swim
Thus giving our old sponsor even more Mileage.  Thank you Fernando, SMART loves you!
But it didnt take much time before they got going again!
And the rest of the fleet was right behind!

After all the races were done and the scores tallied, The "Three "G"s had won.  Gia and Luigi first, Germaine and Mike second, and Gaye and Charlie Third. I'm really looking forward to next year!
