This trail is a good aternative to the dusty, exposed "regular tourist horse trail", seen below.
The Christie Kenney trail, is primarily a walking trail, with much more vegetation. The trail was privately developed,and goes through peoples private properties, requiring that guide fees be paid. This increases the price , slightly over the regular tourist trail.
So far, this slightly higher price has discouraged large tour contractors from using the trail, making it a much better walking trail for school groups, and nature trippers.
Much of the trail is completely under jungle forest cover. The trail is quite clean, and although horses ARE allowed on the trail, TLYC is pushing to ban horses, so that there will be AT LEAST ONE trail, which is a purely walking trail. There are still quite a few jungle flora and fauna on the trail, and we are concerned that these will probably disappear, with the advent of increased horse use, and mobs of unruly Korean tour groups.
Unlike
the regular tourist trail, there is a shaded hut , big enough for a
group of 20, at the top of the trail. BRING WATER ON THIS TRAIL!
It is not nearly as commercialized as the regular trail, so there are
(as of July 2008) no hawkers on the trail, trying to sell whatever trinkets
or souvenir items, OR WATER.
