Sail the World 2007

Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007

We only really heard that anybody was doing anything, on the Thursday before.

Martyn Willes of Puerto Galera Yacht Club sent a text message to TLYC Manager Joe Hagedorn, and sent me (Peter Capotosto) an e-mail.

But a few phone calls later, it looked like we would have a "Flotilla Parade" event to commemorate ISAF's 100 years of sailing.
The Sunday breeze cooperated, and everyone was quite pleased with the turnout considering the quick, impromptu preparations.

By noon, we were blessed with about 10 knots of breeze.

It was perfect for students  sailing Toppers, like Lori and  Ian, who had just taken their first lesson the day before.

Hope Ngo, moving to the Philippines, from HK, had a great time as well.

Ed Umali brought a couple of Streakers over, which he had built himself a few years ago.  The conditions just couldn't possibly have been better for the boats.
Click on ed's pic above, for Ed's blog with notes about this ISAF 100th anniversary event.
The Streakers will be left at TLYC, in preparation for the November 17/ 18 annual "Round Taal Volcano Regatta".
Hobie Bravo
The "RTV REGATTA" brainchild of Noel Lim, is now regularly  sponsored by local land developers "Buena Vista", and "Taal View Heights".

This year, RTV will feature Optis, Toppers, Streakers, and Hobie Bravos (left) and Hobie 16s .

Of course, the main fleet at TLYC, is the Hobie 16 fleet. The 16s were out in force, and after the parade, and lunch, most set off to sail around the Volcano.

After lunch, even more sailors had arrived at the club, and most of them joined in the attempt to sail around the volcano.

It was a great day, enjoyed by all, including the occasional sleepy dog.

Jana Franke, one of the invitees who sailed, reiprocated by surprising everyone with a fiery show after the wine was opened, and the sun had set.

All participating sailors at the event recieved an ISAF certificate of participation, on this day, dedicated to romoting sailing worldwide

A big Thanks to ISAF, for such a great idea. the goal of the exercise was to get people introduced to the sport of sailing, and it certainly did. Hopefully this will turn into an Annual event.

There are more pics of the event here.
